The Hoyo de Monterrey Favoritas de España (frequently referred to in auction catalogs as the Favoritos de España) is a legendary, collector-tier vintage gem that dates back to the pre-revolutionary and early post-revolutionary eras of Cuba. Celebrated as a rare piece of cigar history, this discontinued release was originally crafted to cater directly to the Spanish market—historically the most important consumer base for premium Cuban Habanos. Production of this specific vitola was quietly phased out in the 1970s, making surviving examples highly sought-after centerpieces at international auction houses.

First Third: Due to decades of continuous aging, the cigar opens with an incredibly soft, ethereal whisper of flavor. Pristine, fragile notes of antique cedar wood, dried white flowers, and parched field straw lightly graze the palate. The retrohale is completely smooth, lacking any trace of youthful spice.

Second Third: Moving into the main section of the slender barrel, the profile turns noticeably creamier, showing the majestic integration of aged tobacco. Subtle undertones of toasted hazelnuts, damp cellar earth, and old parchment paper come to the forefront, framed by a very delicate honeyed sweetness.

Final Third: The conclusion remains exceptionally elegant and light-bodied. The blend gently focuses on a clean woodiness, featuring notes of dry oak, a dash of white tea, and a lingering, faint herbal complexity. It finishes remarkably clean with zero throat irritation or bitter tar accumulation.
